Close Readings: Rilke

Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms, or books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

– Rilke, “Letters to a Young Poet”

It’s been a while and last week was crazy for me, maybe it was crazy for you too.

I want to start off this week in a positive place with some positive thoughts. The quote I’ve been meditating upon lately is written above. What I think is most important, especially in seasons of change, seasons of uncertainty, and seasons of doubt, is to live the questions. In my case, this applies to my job search; I am starting to look for the next step in my career. In whatever challenge you might be facing have patience, and embrace the questions. Explore them and live them but don’t over think them. Answers unfold when the time is right.

I wish you peace and patience in all endeavors! Maybe you too can take Rilke’s wise words to heart this week and beyond.

X,

E
